My Thought On My Running And Cycling + This Evening’s Run 10/30/11
Tonight’s run was easy and calm. I ran twice around the Rose Bowl in Pasadena so that’s 6.2 miles or so. I started the run right when the sun was setting so it was the time when the air just started cooling and moving into the evening time. It’s something I usually miss, that temperature change, unless I’m running.
Here’s the link to my stats…..My Run
I would like to share about something, I’ll try to make it short and sweet but today was a day of strong caffination so who knows what will happen. I recently got my hands on the new iPod Nano, the little clip one with the touch screen. I specifically got it because Nike+ has a cool GPS program set up with it. I was super excited to be able to clip something on my shorts that can tell me how far I’m going and what my time is, seeing as how I recently have decided to start keeping track of that stuff. Prior to this I would just run on nights that I didn’t have anything to do so I could just run to my heart’s content or to my body’s threshold, whichever came first. The little nano is awesome. I never listen to music when I run but I almost never cycle without, so I am super excited to have a source of music that I can carry on my bike that is not my phone. One thing about my running is that I hate carrying stuff. Hate. I usually only carry a water bottle if I’m running up a mountain or know I’m going for a long time where there’s no water source. Looking at it that way the nano was built for people like me. The problem is that it popped off my waste band and hit a rock and cracked the screen so be wary of wearing it on your waste band when you run. I went to the Apple store and they gave me a new one free because I only had it for 6 days or so before it fell off. Now I got a watch band type thing that holds it as I run which is still something to get used to but I am finding it super beneficial to record the stats. Basically it’s a GPS watch that holds a lot of music. That’s pretty cool if you ask me.
Prior to this, as I was saying before, I never recorded my time or distance. I would only bring a watch if I had an appointment to get to so that I don’t loose track of time and show up late. The reason for this is that I would obsessively count time and distance. I got a little unhealthy and weird with it. What I mean was that I would run some distance and some time and essentially preach form atop a metaphorical soap box to everyone how far and how fast I was. I would put it all over Facebook, I would text it to people, I would call people and tell them on and on. I still feel a little ashamed about acting like that. It was totally some of those all too common fear of being alone insecurities at their finest. I was acting like a douche to be honest and I’m glad I had the opportunity to see it myself from the outside and stop. When I first started recording my time again after maybe a year or so of not, I was fearful that I would turn back into that person. I can happily say I did not. Phiew! Instead what happened is I found that somewhere along the lines with the fear based ego shit taken out of the equation, I had left over an unadulterated love of running and cycling and I very much wanted to share those feelings. This is why I started this here blog Demonfeet. The really cool thing is that the number keeping I am doing with my running is now making me want to run more and cycle more on a regular basis. I upload my runs and rides to Nike+ and Mapmyride and I see the numbers climb. I love that! That is so exciting to me. It’s now totally a pursuit of self, breaking my own barriers and all that good stuff. It’s super fun and goddamn do I love me some running and cycling. It’s like a whole new outlook, a refill of the reason that I even started running and cycling in the first place.
I don’t really know what else to say or write for that matter other than thank you to those who have been reading this blog. keeping it up has been thus far a super fun experience and I look forward to seeing where I take it from this point. If anyone has any awesome ideas of where they would like to see it go feel free to email me at Demonfeet@gmail.com. Thanks again.
